Kurtis has been a Freelance Photographer (kurtisstewart.com) since 2007. He photographs pretty much everything but kids and pets (…if he can help it). When he’s not hoisting a camera of his own, he’s teaching others to use theirs properly at Langara College and Vancouver Film School. It may seem like Kurtis is all work and no play but in between work and juggling many volunteer positions he enjoys coaching Ultimate frisbee and cycling around the city on his bike Clarence.

Marketing Automation: The Rumours Are True!
The initial period of engagement with new supporters is a make-it-or-break-it moment for a nonprofit. Get it right and it’s the start of a valuable long-term relationship, get it wrong and you risk alienating the supporter forever. Earlier this year, Human Rights campaign replaced its traditional welcome series with Marketing Automation to better engage with its supporters and free up valuable staff time. We’ll walk through the concept, implementation, and results of Marketing Automation and discuss uses beyond the welcome series including when web forms are abandoned, sending reminders to update credit card information for recurring donors, and emailing re-activation messages for supporters that have stopped listening.

Maude Barlow is the Honorary Chairperson of the Council of Canadians and chairs the board of Washington-based Food and Water Watch. She serves on the executive of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature and is a Councillor with the Hamburg-based World Future Council.
Maude is the recipient of fourteen honorary doctorates as well as many awards, including the 2005 Right Livelihood Award (known as the “Alternative Nobel”), the 2005 Lannan Foundation Cultural Freedom Fellowship Award, the Citation of Lifetime Achievement at the 2008 Canadian Environment
Awards, the 2009 Earth Day Canada Outstanding Environmental Achievement Award, the 2009 Planet in Focus Eco Hero Award, and the 2011 EarthCare Award, the highest international honour of the Sierra Club (US).
In 2008/2009, she served as Senior Advisor on Water to the 63rd President ofthe United Nations General Assembly and was a leader in the campaign to have water recognized as a human right by the UN. She is also the author of dozens of reports, as well as 18 books, including her latest, Blue Future: Protecting Water For People And The Planet Forever and Boiling Point, Government Neglect, Corporate Abuse and Canada’s Water Crisis.
